Notice the contradictory and divergent accounts of the Hindu quoting ,a sub inspector of police & that of Bangalore Mirror quoting the deputy superintendent of police,

deputy superintendent of police :

  • Drunk “miscreants” on street waylaid a passing victim.
  • The victim was doused with liquor and set on fire.
  • Took the statement from the victim.

Sub Inspector :

  • Bike borne assailants attack the victim.
  •  Victim doused with Petrol.
  • Police have yet to take a statement from the victim.

According to the parents of the victim , he had minor altercation with students belonging to Anantapur, Rayala Seema the previous day over the Telangana issue  & he frequently complained about harassment he had to face from a set of students belonging to the Seemandhra region.  The students have apparently split in two opposing camps on regional basis. Telugu media from the both regions sought to underplay the incident, for different reasons, the telangana media because it feared any retaliatory violence against settlers in Telangana at this stage could potentially derail the telangana process & Seemandhra media because it has a inherent bias against telangana and loathes to represent telangana people as victims, as it doesn’t fit in its ‘telugu unity’ ,’telugu pride’ narrative.

The website of ‘Namaste Telangana’ a leading daily in AP , erroneously carried a report that the victim had succumbed to his injuries & the social media was abuzz with telangana netizens quoting the news & expressing their outrage & condolences. The victim was reportedly studious and tried to stay clear of politics, he was returning to his residence from a  library when the attack took place.

The victim’s name is Kameshwar Sai Prasad , age 22, wish him a speedy recovery.
